home ec / granola done your way!

i came across this nifty little site called www.mixmygranola.com a couple of days ago and knew i had to give it some shine on here.  i am addicted to granola but always find myself buying a bag of it and picking around the less desireable items in the blend, then tossing them.  i’m too lazy to just go and buy all the individual items myself and make my own blend.  enter www.mixmygranola.com

when you go to the site it’s very simple:  you select your granola base, nuts, fruits, extras and even in enhancers like bee pollen, caffeine etc.  they blend it and ship it directly to you in a nifty aluminum tube that keeps in the freshness.   depending on the make-up of you mix, you can either eat it straight out the tube or do like some and pour some in a bowl and eat it with cold or warm milk.  personally, with my favorite blend costing about $25…that isn’t a way in heaven i’m pouring enough in a bowl to eat like cereal!  i will nibble sparingly.

give them a try!  you’re looking to spend roughly $20 for a 16oz. container.  but it’s worth it if everything in your granola is exactly what you want.

book

home ec / cheddar garlic biscuits for that azz!

my co-worker brought this recipe book to work one day and the name alone made me roll my eyes:  The Get ‘Em Girls’ Guide to the Power of Cuisine: Perfect Recipes for Spicing Up Your Love Life.  it was such a cheesy title surely the recipes couldn’t live up to the challenge.  BRUTHAS, I WAS WRONG!!  if you ever go on a date and end up at the womans house and see this book laying around….RUN!  these damn recipes will have you proposing, not only with a 4 ct. diamond, but a 4 ct. diamond from Tiffany & Co.! these recipes are lethal.  if you want to protect your bachelor-hood, don’t mess with a woman with this book!

i’m typically the best cook out of all my friends, i cook for females to feed their men sometimes.  plus i collect cook books as well.  i have tried mutiple recipes out of this book and they never fail. they are so simple and well written, they should have targeted this cook book toward men.

here is one of my favorite recipes.  i no longer have to stomach certain chain seafood restaurants just to devour two baskets worth of cheddar garlic biscuits….these come out so much better!  shakara bridgers, jeneice isley and joan a. davis….will ya’ll marry me?

  • 2 cups baking mix (recommended: Bisquick)
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 1/2 shredded cheddar cheese
  • 8 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

preheat oven to 450ºF.  combne the BAKING MIX, MILK, and CHEESE in a medium bowl until a soft dough forms.  drop by the tablespoonful onto an ungreased cookie sheet.  bake until golden brown, 8 to 10 minutes.  mix the BUTTER and GARLIC POWDER in a small bowl.  brush over the hot biscuits.  serve immediately.

that’s it!  i’m not even embarassed to say i ate a whole batch of these ALONE one day.  try ‘em out fellas!
