flesh / dove men+care line huh?

so i’m mopping around the grocery store and come across this lil end-cap display peddling Dove Men+Care bar soap and body wash.  considering i’ve been using Dove UNSCENTED for years, after realizing Ivory soap was drying the hell outta my skin….i find it humorous that Dove has now jumped on the products for men bandwagon.

truth of the matter is:  men have always cared about their skin, and more times than not, they sneaked and used their wives and girlfriends products, either outta curiousity or recommendation.  so all of these lines of products now geared toward men don’t really impress me.  now a line made exclusively for me…totally different.  but you gotta do something more than making the package more “masculine” to draw me in.

hell, i’ve been using dove for 6-7 years now.  the only thing that really bothers me about skin care products for us is, they create the most gawd-awful scents.  i’ve never in my damn life wanted to smell like an ocean, a tree or “energy”….nor does clean have a damn scent…SO STOP CALLING IT CLEAN!!!!  all the fragrances are just too overpowering for my taste.  by the time you add the frangrance of the soap with an aftershave, deoderant and then cologne and you’ll need to take another shower smelling like a hot ass mess.  but i digress….

Dove kept it pretty simple with three scents:  Clean Comfort, Deep Clean and Extra Fresh.  they have a body and face wash (not trusting THAT duo!) which confuses me.  either it’s strong enough to clean your body, but too strong for your face….or it’s mild enough to clean your face and pretty weak on the body.  dammit, i’m confused now!!!  they also make a bar soap in the same fragrances and a dual sided shower tool…which is a fancy way of saying “Man Loofa”.

i’ll be picking up one of each other the weekend and tell you what i think after a week of using it.  i really wish they would make fragrance-free men’s skin care as well.

Dove Men+Care – Video and TV.

my personal testimony:  i tried ”Clean Comfort” out last night……cleaned me up just fine……lather was rich and thick…..wait…….wait a minute…..OH GAWD!…it smells like Wings for Men…..i HATE Wings for Men….OH GAWD!…my whole bathroom now smells like Wings for Men….too lazy to take another shower……had to sleep overnight smelling like Wings for Men…..wasn’t happy i smelled like Wings for Men/Clean Comfort…..slept horribly….can’t wait until the morning to shower this gawd awful smell outta my flesh.  i might have been clean, but i wasn’t all that comfortable.  curse you Wings for Men smelling Dove Men+Care Clean Comfort!!!  curse you to hell!

work / dress shirt collar primer

most guys, like me, walk into a suit shop and simply ask for a dress shirt.  rarely do we pay attention to the collar style.  trying a different collar can give a new look to a suit…but more importantly, can complement your physique and balance out your look for the day.  take a look at the different still.  at the end of the blog check out which collar works best for which body styles.

Straight (Standard)- It spreads out at a diagonal beneath your chin and there is a gap of about 2 ½ to 3 inches between the ends. For the average man this will suit their body type and face fine.  Best Tie Knot:  Four In Hand

Spread (Small, Quarter and Half) - Anything over 3 inches is considered a spread collar: spreads can go up to about 6 inches. Generally speaking, men with wider or rounder faces should avoid spread collars as it will accentuate this wideness or roundness of face.  Best Tie Knot:  Windsor Knot or Half Windsor

Tab - It gets its name because behind the tie knot there is a tab which is used to bring the collar edges together right behind the tie knot.. This tends to press out the tie knot and make the tie a bit more prominent than with other collars. Slender men, men with long necks as well as wide faced men often do well with tab collars on their tailored dress shirts.  Best Tie Knot:  Four In Hand

Button Down - The spread can vary, just as with non-button collars. It is generally considered to be a less formal tie.  Also can be purchased with an Inside Button Down Collar.  Best Tie Knot:  Four In Hand

Band - purely an informal collar, it is a great collar to wear for business casual. If you close the top button for a more formal look you can wear it with the appropriate blazer.

Pin Collar - A pinned collar is so named because a pin is used to bring the two sides of the collar together. The pin can be changed, thus providing a bit of variety with the collar.  Best Tie Knot:  Varies, personal preference

Wing – a tuxedo collar and can only be worn with a Bow Tie.

Round - While most collars have straight edges, the edges of a rounded collar are rounded, as the name implies. Generally the spread is very small, and has a somewhat stubby look to it.   Best Tie Knot:  Varies

Face type vs. Collar type

  • You have full cheeks with a rounded jaw line. Narrow point collars help to thin and elongate a round face. The best collar styles for you have straight points with a traditional or narrow spread.
  • You have a square jaw line, which gives your face a broad, square, angular appearance. Square faces look best wearing traditional point collar shirts for versatility, narrow point collars for a fashion look, button down and hidden button down for a sporty look and tab collar shirts for a formal look.
  • You have pronounced cheekbones and a narrow, pointed chin, which gives your face a “diamond shape.” To make your jaw line appear wider, choose shirts with a medium spread to wide spread collar.
  • Oblong faces tend to appear long with a u-shaped jaw line. You need collars with a wider spread to give your face the appearance of fullness. Choose medium spread collars for everyday and wide spread collars for a formal look.
  • Men with oval faces are fortunate because you can wear any collar style. Enjoy wearing traditional collars for an everyday look, button down collar shirts for a sportier casual look, tab collars for a neat, dapper appearance, or wide spread collars for a formal look.
